EUROPEAN ANGST: Conference on Populism, Extremism and Euroscepticism in Contemporary European Societies

 6 - 7 december 2016

Bruxelles

Resentment, anger and anxiety are haunting Europe, seeding populism, extremism and euroscepticism. The more momentum populist parties and movements gain, the more clueless the established political, cultural and legislative institutions seem to be. Why is this happening now? And how are we dealing with is?

The conference European Angst will shed light on these topics in a unique way. It will leave the comfort zone of liberal consensus by inviting controversial thinkers, creating thus a space for reflection and in-depth analysis.

Confirmed speakers – amongst others:
- Author and Nobel Prize laureate Herta Müller (The Hunger Angel, 2009)
- French sociologist, philosopher and author Dider Eribon (Retours à Reims, 2009);
- Slovenian philosopher and cultural critic Slavoj Žižek (Trouble in Paradise: From the End of History to the End of Capitalism, 2015)
- Turkish author and columnist Elif Shafak (The Bastard of Istanbul, 2006)
